Volt Fitness is second in line for a trend first spotted in Dubai and now moving to the capital: state-of-the-art gyms that also offer boutique-style training, service and amenities, with a full range of fitness classes, all in a five-star hotel. 

It started earlier this year across Abu Dhabi, with Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort’s British import Bodyism. However, Volt’s offering is an entirely different concept.

Volt Fitness was launched by a group of well-travelled fitness fans who wanted to create a healthy lifestyle facility unlike anywhere else in the capital, explains fitness and wellness manager Karly Melnyk.

“The owners wanted to bring something new and fresh to Abu Dhabi,” she says. “Somewhere that people can call home, a place to escape after work, and a family-centered lifestyle hub.”

As part of that family-centred focus, Volt offers something very rare for the UAE: two hours of free child care per visit in a dedicated Kids Zone.

There’s no frantic searching for a parking spot while racing to a workout here either, a common problem at the capital’s other offerings. Breathe a sign of relief next time you are late for a session, knowing there are 150 parking spaces right outside. 

Inside is a full range of cardio equipment and all the weights and functional workout gear you’d ever need, whether you are self-guided or taking part in a class.

Snag the treadmill facing the Grand Mosque for the best indoor running view ever, spend five minutes working your glutes on the stair stepper, go low-key on a recumbent bike or take on some standard CrossFit favorites

There are assault bikes, upright rowers and an air runner, as well as tires to flip and a stretch of turf for sled running. There’s a boxing area fitted with three heavy bags, a full functional fitness training section and a tilted rebounder, for one or two-handed proprioceptive training. 

There is beach space for outdoor workouts, beach club access with memberships and a range of personal training options. 

Melnyk will be teaching V Zen Yoga, V Fit Pilates and V Fit Core sessions. The rest of the classes are by Les Mills, featuring some of the capital’s most popular instructors. In addition to standard offerings like BodyAttack, BodyPump, BodyCombat, there are the company’s newer workouts: Sprint, a 30-minute RPM/HIIT blast, and The Trip, an immersive 45-minute stationary biking session in front of virtual reality images projected onto a big screen.

Volt Fitness’ ladies-only facilities are second-to-none, with a fully private entrance, all the equipment and classes, too. Although the main fitness studio shares a glass wall with the main workout area, never fear. As Melnyk demonstrates, with the press of a button the window fogs over, creating instant privacy. 

Other notable features at Volt include gorgeous and roomy locker facilities, with rain showers and steam rooms; filtered water on tap (saving 600 plastic bottles by opening week) and a coffee and juice bar.
